Strategy is born of vision and a must for any successful company. However, strategy is useless unless put into action. Many companies bring in “strategic thinking” employees with good intentions of having them mind the strategic store, only to have them slide into the tactical frenzy of day-to-day operations. Let's face it; with today's lean and mean organizations, companies simply cannot afford full-time employees assigned to developing and maintaining a strategic plan.

The old adage “If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there” applies to companies who find themselves hopping from quarter to quarter without long-term goals and objectives.

Most often than not, much of what is needed to develop a dynamic, actionable strategic plan lies within the organization. Employees engaged in sales, marketing, finance, R&D, manufacturing, customer support, etc. have a good read on external and internal issues or trends that could significantly impact the company. The challenge is to source this information at the tactical level and elevate it to the strategic level.

Global Development Partners, LLC does just that. We extract this valuable data at the tactical level through brainstorming workshops across the entire organization and then filter and condense it for strategic impact. We then collaborate with senior management via a series of meetings to further assess potential strategic significance and implications on the firm. Only then are the successfully vetted issues included in the company strategic plan, which is updated on a quarterly basis and assessed against metrics for progress.

The final phase is collaborating with our clients in developing or updating their strategic action plan. We are adamant about our clients creating and owning their strategic plan, rather than having one delivered to their doorstep by an outside consultant.

For an annual retainer, GDP will conduct several “issue scanning” workshops with groups across the firm, filter and package strategic issues, conduct a “strategic imaging” workshop with senior management, measuring progress against goals and objectives.
